I have the same problem as some peopels here in the forum, my game lacks, and ive tried disable the firewall and everything but it still lacks and hacks! ive discoverd that if you wait til the fist soundtracks is over the menu stops to lack, but if you start the game it continues and is compleatly un-playable! if anyone have any hints or somthing please do post!! i would really love to try this demo, but so far it seem impossible. Thanks everyone!

I did 2 thing. One I uninstalled and imediatelt reinstalled my videocard, I installed the developer runtime for directx and them uninstalled it. This fixed and improper regsitry settings I had. Now the game plays flawlessly

As so I I start the game the screen goes black and I get the following errors:

Generic application error. Ebanle debug output for detailed information.

Switching to the reference rasterizer,a software device that implemets the entire Diecrct3D feature ste, but runs very slowly..

When I press OK the get the following message.

Generic Application error. Enable debug output for detailed information.
This sample will now exit.

Then the game crashes.

I running WindowsXP English version. with English regional settings.
I've trued running the game with a Radeon 9800PRO and a GeForce 6800GT with the lastest drivers as of today.

I have a pentium 3.0HT with 2 GIGS of memeory (alienware Area 51)
with a soundblaster audigy 2 platium.

I've run dxdiag and all is fine, All my other D3D games run including doom 3 and Halo.

Any ideas would be great.

Monkey Boy, We dont have a definitive workaround for this problem just yet, pm me a DXDiag report so I can have a closer look at your system.

DarkSTar, I dont understand your post, are you saying the game runs flawlessly but you have a D3D error message and crash immediately? [which makes no sense] Or is that a quote at the top....or something else?

Windows SP1 not SP2 [but it really should be backwards compatible], I'm gunna take a look at the SP2 problems tho.

Master_Sluggard, 2 things, try reinstalling the demo and or uninstalling SP2. Also why did you downgrade from 4.8?

Is there a way of this game running under XP2? I have reinstalled the demo about 4 times so far.

Because its a graphics issue, and the fact i am having a graphics issue with another game made me wonder about it being a driver problem. Apparently it wasnt.

I'm not convinced its a SP2 issue, chances are its a combination of other factors. I've got a clean machine, installed XP pro SP1a then updated everything... as much/far as possible and I've had no problems running the demo so far. Could you run DXDiag, hit the 'save all information' button and then pm it to me.

Thanks Slug [how come you have this 'directx.cpl' file on your machine?],

Guys atm we are looking into these SP2 issues, the current theory is that its sound related [I'm still trawling through the fixes and known issues with SP2], so if you've got an onboard and pci sound card try uninstalling them, disabling one then installing the latest drivers for the device you kept active. I'll get back with more info when I get it.

Yea its something we'll definetly be looking into, however there is nothing concrete atm as SP2 is still being tested at Microsoft itself. I'm devoting some time into reproducing this issue once we got it occuring here we can debug it properly and see what needs to be done. Slug if you could send me as much info about your machine as possible (incl. processes/applications that are running on your machine atm and so on).

This is a LONG thread. It'd be hard to wade through all of it.
Anyway, I've had the game crash on me a bunch of times. But not just any crash.
It locks up my whole system. I have to restart.
I'm not using SP2 or overclocking. This kind of crash doesn't usually happen.
I just hope it won't crash like this in the full game.
