| Richard Joseph dies |
 |
| Posted on March 5, 2007 at 04:44 by Jon |
I'm incredibly sad to have to report the death of Richard Joseph, ex-audio director at Elixir and composer of many tracks on Evil Genius. He was a genuinely decent guy, very talented and a pleasure to know. I'm sure everyone who knew him will join with me in saying he will be much missed.

| New Site Administrators |
 |
| Posted on May 1, 2005 at 04:00 by Ergophobia |
Caused by the recent events, the selection of two new Site Admins has faded a bit into the background. That is why I am now proud to announce that Roain and I are officially taking over.
Don't expect major changes, though. We'll be updating the game section, probably, and we will take over Jon's tasks, such as monitor the latest mods and posting any news about the game. (which will not be that much, mods put aside).
Over the next few months, don't be surprised if Jon still regularly posts his share of site news. He will still be an Administrator, but the idea is that we gradually take over his tasks.
Again, thanks to all who have offered to help on the site, all suggestions are still appreciated!

| Elixir to close |
 |
| Posted on April 28, 2005 at 03:41 by Jon |
Very sad day. As many of you know, Elixir created Evil Genius and had a bright future ahead, but sadly things weren't to be. All employees have been made redundant, myself included. We here at Evil Planet will continue, however, to enjoy the excellant game that is Evil Genius. GamesIndutry.biz article.
ELIXIR STUDIOS BEGINS WINDING DOWN OPERATIONS.
It is with great sadness that Elixir Studios today announced it is to cease day-to-day operations, effective immediately, and will seek the orderly sale and re-use of all its remaining assets and IP.
Following the successful release of Evil Genius in October 2004, the Company has been working on a very innovative game for a major US software and games publisher for the past couple of years. This project was recently cancelled due to the perceived high-risk profile of the endeavour. Elixir also has a number of promising original prototypes at various stages of development but the Board of Directors feel that the current risk averse publishing climate, in the run up to the launch of next generation platforms, virtually precludes the signing of any original IP (which is not already part of a well-established franchise or license), without an unreasonably large strategic investment in the project by the developer themselves.
In light of the above, and the current financial and market conditions, the Directors have taken the decision to use a part of the cash resources held by the Company to treat its employees in a professional manner by paying redundancy packages to everyone and to allow an orderly wind-down of operations.
Mark Hewitt, CEO: "It is clearly a disappointing day for the team here, and for British independent developers in general, but we were extremely keen to wind things down on our terms and treat our employees and creditors properly and in a professional manner. It has been a real privilege working with such incredibly talented people, and I have nothing but admiration for our backers and the team here. We have a fantastic collection of people working at Elixir and other developers would be crazy not to snap them up immediately!"
Demis Hassabis, founder and Chairman: "It has been an amazing roller-coaster ride. It's hard to believe that 7 years have flown by. I'm very proud of what all the staff at Elixir have achieved and the games we produced. We gave it everything we had but ultimately it wasn't quite enough. It seems that today's games industry no longer has room for small independent developers wanting to work on innovative and original ideas. Perhaps there is no longer any need for them. However, this was the sole purpose of setting up Elixir and something we could never compromise on by going down the licensing route."

| Arctic mod - further updates and skin packs |
 |
| Posted on April 25, 2005 at 02:23 by Jon |
If you have not downloaded Evil Argon's excellant arctic mod yet then now would be an excellant time to try it out. Today three skin packs have been released, created by forum member "The Sinister Mastermind" and include icey blue skins for every genius, henchman and minion - a truly excellant effort and very effective. Currently they are all available as seperate downloads so you can pick and choose what you have in your game - I am working on a complete pack in the near future. All the details, images and download links are here.

| Posted on April 18, 2005 at 13:35 by Jon |
As I mentioned in a post about a week ago, I feel it is becoming inapropriate for me to own and maintain this website (and our sister site, RepRev) as I now work in the computer games industry myself. I firmly believe that fansites should not only be for the fans, but also by the fans. Therefore I am looking for some people to take over one of the sites and move it forward. There are a few days left for interested applicants to make an entry, and all the details are in this forum thread.

| The complete Bonus CD |
 |
| Posted on April 15, 2005 at 09:59 by Jon |
The World Domination Starter Pack was a bonus add-on to Evil Genius which some lucky people in the UK got when they ordered their copies of the game. It contained bonus content, including a new henchman, and a poster/comic/screensaver/video combination, amongst other things. Now, I've made the complete CD available for download (with permission) and the 250meg zip is available on FilePlanet (free registration required). Enjoy!
