 |
| Posted on March 21, 2005 at 12:14 by Jon |
Whilst I have been hosting the patch for Evil Genius on this site since its release, I have just realised that it is rather hidden. So, if you have been looking for it - my apologies. It is now listed clearly in the downloads section, or click here. You may also be interested in the unofficial patch which should work alongside the official one, fixing a number of further glitches and adding fan-requested updates.

More is hopefully on the way, with a full set on minion skins suitable for the new level. Thanks to Evil Argon and other members of the forum for their contributions to this great little mod.

| New game - Republic Dawn? |
 |
| Posted on February 22, 2005 at 07:45 by Jon |
This news is rather out of the blue, but Computer and Video Games has found itself an exclusive about a Republic sequel in the works at Elixir. Here's the full scoop:
ELIXIR'S REPUBLIC RELOCATES TO SPACE
Demis' boys and Nicely Crafted team up on an intriguing new FPS MMO project; Republic Dawn; Chronicles of the Seven, set for a 2007 release...
12:40 Elixir Studios today announced that its much anticipated sequel to Republic: The Revolution, is underway as a joint venture with Cambridge based MMOG geniuses (or is that genii?) Nicely Crafted Entertainment. It currently posseses the working title of Republic Dawn: The Chronicles of the Seven.
Republic Dawn is described as an MMO first-person shooter game, set in an embryonic society devastated by a sudden attack. In space. In the future. The sound you just heard was several million geeks exclaiming sexual climax.
The press release also claims that players will also be able to dictate the future of mankind. Surely that's Demis being over ambitious again? Remember that infinite polys claim in Republic? Oh how we laughed...
Anyway. We digress (sorry Demis, but we couldn't resist). The title is currently aimed for PC release in 2007 - a fair while off - but this hasn't stopped both developers gushing on about how excited they are. Here's Elixir's Demis sharing his personal feelings on the project:
"Nicely Crafted is at the forefront of MMOG gaming technology. I'm really excited that my vision of thousands of players building a Republic together is finally going to happen", said Elixir's enthusiastic creative director. "This is the perfect way for Elixir to enter the MMOG arena."
Nicely Crafted, who is no stranger to MMOGs in space (see its Time of Defiance title www.timeofdefiance.com for solid evidence of this) also shared its mutual joy on the project through suitably upbeat MD, Toby Simpson:
"Teaming up with Elixir for Republic 2 is a fantastic way to start 2005. With Demis and his team's experience in creating outstanding triple-A games, Republic 2 is going to provide great gameplay and visual experiences - offering players freedom and flexibility that is unparalleled in today's MMOG marketplace." He then proudly added, "With our server technology, we're creating a world where hundreds of thousands of people will be able to take part in building a republic."
Very impressive indeed. The game's official site is now live at www.republicdawn.com
Check back here soon, when well have some words with the game's Lead Designer, Nicely Crafted's Jamie Barber...
I'm don't have any further information about it, but feel free to chat about it on the forums! The full press release is on the Elixir site.

Now that the characters page has been updated with the last of the images (see the post below), I am turning my attention to ensuring our traps page has all the pictures and info we can get our hands on. If you want to help out by collecting images of the missing traps, or editing the images found by others to have the funky border (as demonstrated here) then that would be really appreciated - all the information you need is in this forum post. Cheers.

I've rather neglected the character page updates I have lined up to do, especially with the many articles and columns which were posted last week, but I'm slowly getting back on track. The characters page now has images for all the SABRE agents (along with the PATRIOT, HAMMER and ANVIL which I did last week). SMASH images will be up tomorrow, and the last of the miscellaneous characters will be posted on Wednesday.

About time for a new poll, I think. Now that the news of official updates having quietened down, it's up to the community to keep the game going through the use of mods and unofficial game updates. So what have you done with your copy of the game? Vote in our new poll, and you are welcome to give your more detailed comments in the forum thread that you will be automatically forwarded to after voting. If you are interested in modding, take a look at our modding page with the best of the community mods, and a full list, plus discussion can be found in the modding section of our forums.

If you are interested in doing some modding with your copy of Evil Genius, but don't really know where to start, why not try out some simple character skins? The Butcher (blood stained clothing), John Steele, Mercenary minion (Yellow, like the guard) and the Marksman minion (Yellow, like the Mercenary).

| Posted on January 14, 2005 at 10:18 by Jon |
When you've played through Evil Genius a few times, you may be eager to find new ways of enjoying the game and extending the playing life. One of the things you can try is making cool trap combos. These, put simply, reward cool traps, linked together, with money and the satisfaction of dealing with those pesky agents. PenguinMan, from the forums, has written a great article on these traps, with many examples, and invites you to send in your cool trap combos for a future article. Check it out!

On a side note, super agent Frostinova finally has her own bio page - a picture and a few lines of info (spoiler warning). Thanks, as always, to Ergophobia for helping collect the images together.

 |
| Posted on January 4, 2005 at 02:17 by Jon |
Hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable new year, despite the news from Asia. It's all back to work at Elixir now, and for me too to give this site a little spring clean. Evil Genius news is going to be coming rather slowly over the next few months, if at all, so don't expect daily updates, but the community here is bustling along very nicely with many new signups each day and hundreds of messages daily. This community have been working towards getting screenshots of all the different characters in the game, and in the next week or so, I'll be updating my characters page to include pictures and info (where applicable) of as many of these as possible. Keep watching this space!
