| Hints and Cheats page added |
 |
| Posted on September 20, 2004 at 03:34 by Jon |
A new addition to Evil Planet - a hints and cheats page. This section, which currently has demo information only of course, has links to places on the forums to chat about demo issues and game problems, a link to an official and unofficial FAQ and a handy bog standard cheat/dev mode page explaining how to get the most of the demo.

 |
| Posted on September 17, 2004 at 10:28 by Jon |
This really isn't a new review - it's a transcript of the PC Gamer review of a week ago. Certainly worth check out though - it's the first proper review you can read online.

| Evil Genius review: PC Format (88%) |
 |
| Posted on September 17, 2004 at 07:37 by Jon |
A bizarre review from a magazine I don't particularly trust, but worth posting. Overall the score is bloody great, but the review seems to spend an eternity picking apart the bad points of the game (few and far between as they are) and still slap a great score on it. One wonders if their reviews have any good points in them at all! Anyway - 88% is a great addition to the list of scores for EG.

| New henchman bio: Montezuma |
 |
| Posted on September 17, 2004 at 02:13 by Jon |
After a brief absence, IGN have finally restarted their henchmen bio series, this time with a brief look at the background and special abilities of voodoo-wannabee Montezuma. Along with it are a bunch of screenshots featuring the aforementioned "bad" guy, and a video should be following in the next few days.

| Huge Evil Genius banner image |
 |
| Posted on September 16, 2004 at 06:01 by Jon |
An Evil Planet exclusive - check out this huge banner-style image (800kb, FilePlanet) direct from Elixir. It shows all the henchmen and the three Evil Genius' in one group pose, which will hopefully be of use to anyone making wallpapers and other images. When I say huge, I'm not joking... it's 4724x3150! Well worth downloading. It can be downloaded here (scroll down for free servers, registration required).

| New preview at C&VG |
 |
| Posted on September 15, 2004 at 02:58 by Jon |
Computer and Video Games has posted a short preview of Evil Genius. Flicking back through last month's "PC Zone" (which this month gave Evil Genius 84% in a final review), this is a direct copy of older preview, meaning that whilst it will be new to 90% of readers, it doesn't have any particularly new information.

| New preview at BoomTown |
 |
| Posted on September 15, 2004 at 02:36 by Jon |
BoomTown have notched up a basic but generally informative preview of Elixir's game. The report is not hugely memorable, but does conclude with the words "Only extended time in the lair of Elixir’s Evil Genius will show up any other hidden gameplay tricks that may be lurking, or any pitfalls in the way it plays, but at the moment plans for world domination look good, with stylish graphics and presentation and deep but easy to pick up play mechanics".

For those of you who enjoyed the original "Perkins" trailer, highlighting the different Evil Genius' in the game ( grab it here! ), you will no doubt be pleased to see a new trailer (26 meg, zipped) sitting on FilePlanet just waiting to be downloaded. This time young Perkins learns about Acts Of Infamy... so go check it out - and as before, the imposing voiceover is done by no other than Evil Genius producer, Pete.

| Evil Genius review: PC Zone (84%) |
 |
| Posted on September 13, 2004 at 09:34 by Jon |
Beating the score they gave Sims 2 by 2% (yay!), UK print mag PC Zone has fired off their review of Evil Genius is this month's mag, out today, and gave it an excellant 84% plus a "PC Zone Essential" award. It has plenty of good stuff to say about the game, inculding the loads of cool touches, the fun style of play, the engrossing nature of the game and more. Rather bizarely, it seems to have marked the game down for simple, blocky and cartoony graphics (I wonder if the Sims 2 was similarly marked down?!) but in general it's a utterly positive review and bodes well for the success of the game.
For those who have the mag to hand, you may wanna check out the feature on Games Testing, with quotes and a rather interesting photo of Elixir's lead tester, Jez.

| Exclusive high quality trailer |
 |
| Posted on September 10, 2004 at 02:32 by Jon |
Recently, an awesome little James Bond spoof trailer, done in a great "action film" trailer style, was released. However, for those not signed up to IGN Insider, the quality was not particularly great. Thanks then, to the publishers, for allowing me to post this exclusive 102 meg, high quality version of the trailer. If you're on broadband, it's well worth the download.

UK mag GamesTM has published anarticle in their latest edition with a final preview of Evil Genius. | New trailer! |
 |
| Posted on September 8, 2004 at 01:50 by Jon |
An awesome new trailer, done in the style of movies and with heavy James Bond hints has been released. It's currently up at IGN, in a variety of versions (including one free to download version) and I'll try to get a really good quality version on this site soon. Do not miss out on this - it's very funny indeed.

| More preview goodies! |
 |
| Posted on September 7, 2004 at 04:20 by Jon |
A couple of new previews for you. The first, from War Cry is an decent, chatty preview of their build, commenting on the game mechanics and their general comments about it. They say it should do well by bringing "play the bad guy" games to a level which can be enjoyed by all ages, rather than just those over 18.
The second, a screenshot and occasionally expletive filled offering from Idle Thumbs is a very enjoyable read indeed. It makes a couple of assumptions and debates various bits of information which they will not find an answer to without the final build, but this is a well thought out and highly positive preview, commenting that "the developers have delivered" and that you should "go out now and buy it". Can't say fairer than that. Be sure to take a look at this one, it's my favourite of all the recent previews, by far.

| Interview with Demis Hassabis |
 |
| Posted on September 6, 2004 at 09:08 by Jon |
A brief interview with Elixir's creative director, Demis Hassabis, has been posted on Experience Gaming. It's short, but interesting as it gets Demis' comments on several different topics, such as the reaction to Republic (and hoped success for Evil Genius), developer publishing, possible future console games (apparantly there is an exciting new proptotype of a multiplayer console game in the works) and developing in the UK. Take a look.

| Demo preview |
 |
| Posted on September 6, 2004 at 07:29 by Jon |
A short preview, which is apparantly of the demo, has been placed on VG City. It's nothing special, as previews go, but worth checking out as most previews are. It finishes with this somewhat confused line, which, once you have got your head around it, actually makes a good point as to whether this game will be overshadowed by Half Life 2 and the Sims 2...
With a slew of highly anticipated games coming out soon, it may be difficult for the game to break ice, but with a presentation like this, its also hard to think it won’t.

| Evil Genius for £18 |
 |
| Posted on September 4, 2004 at 08:44 by Jon |
Quite why Play.com are selling Evil Genius quite so cheap is beyond me, especially as it isn't out yet and the reviews look as if they could be stormingly good. But I guess it's only good for sales and customers alike if the company want to slash their profit margins to this extent, so if you live in the UK and want to get your hands on one of the best games of 2004 for a decent price, then here's the link. Go buy!

| FIRST review! |
 |
| Posted on September 2, 2004 at 06:18 by Jon |
UK print mag, PC Gamer, is the first to print and release their review of the finished Evil Genius game. They give it an excellant 87%. Here are some excerpts:
"The best news is that EG is a more coherent, tighter and more manageable offering than Republic. It's beautifully streamline concept is easy to grasp."
"The most striking and pleasantly surprising aspect of the opening minutes is that everything in the game......... adheres to a very strong and specific sense of style."
"A very British sense of humour...."
"The designers have cleverly prevented the game from degenerating into an aimless sandbox."
"The majority of the game's features function extremely well and the theme is rock-solid throughout.
Conclusion: "Crucially the game never drops the act. Not once does it crack a mocking grin which would break the cartoon magic, but is filled with the sort of humour and pleasing details that other developers will be wishing they'd thought of first."
"So should you leave it on the shelf, as you did with Republic? Why no Mr Bond, I expect you to buy."
"It's" - Stylish, crammed with good ideas, Brosnan rather than Connery.
"It's Not" - A sandbox, easy being evil, quite a work of genius.
Main criticsms include the hotel building fronts "underexplored and unnecessary," and "at times it feels like there's too much pressure," and finally, "the balance isn't smoothly maintained. Thanks, Dave.

 |
| Posted on August 27, 2004 at 08:49 by Jon |
A decent length interview has been posted on Games Chronicles with assistant designer (and forum member here at Evil Planet) Mike Rosser. It talks about the specifics of base building, the different characters in the game, the game controls and so on. It also mentions a previously unknown henchman (no pics) - Dr Neurocide:
Jubei’s wind walk, for example, allows you to instantly teleport him to a remote part of the island to take care of a troublesome agent. Dr Neurocide’s Hallucinogenic Powder allows you to disguise suspicious objects for a short time, which can be extremely useful for preventing high-risk items like the sentry gun getting destroyed by agents.
